Are you Driving with a Purpose?

Our Weekly 2 Minute Read

Edition 66 - October 6, 2019

Ever thought about taking a trip to somewhere you’ve never been before?

That first thought must be super exciting.

So exciting that you just want to hop in the car and start driving off.

However, you still haven’t picked where you want to go yet.

It would hard to reach your destination if you don’t know where you are going.

In order to get to where you are going, you must first know where you want to go.

It’s like trying to hit a target if there is no target to begin with.

It would be pretty frustrating to be driving for hours and not knowing where the destination is going to be.

That is why it is always important to begin with the end in mind.

Start setting goals in life.

Once you have goals on where you want to go, then there will be progress.

And when you start reaching those goals, you start to feel good about the journey you are on.

However, how do you set goals and what kind of goals should you set?

That must be a question that many people must have had at least once in their lives. That certainly was a question that came to my mind after finishing high school and going through college.

A book by Stephen Covey titled, “First Things First” definitely helped in pointing me in the right direction.

In the book, he held a nugget of wisdom which explained that fulfillment comes from four different areas of the human experience; stating that people have a need “to live, to love, to learn, and to leave a legacy.”

To live would be considered the physical, to love the social, to learn the mental, and to leave a legacy the spiritual.

Being aware of these four areas definitely helped in clarifying my values and figuring out what is really important in life.

Once my values were in place, I started setting my goals based on my values.

Slowly but surely, a map of where I wanted to go started to take shape.

Things started to get clearer.

I was excited to see where the journey would take me.
