Are you really listening?

Our Weekly 2 Minute Read

Edition 150 - June 13, 2021

Are you really listening?

Or are you just listening to what you want to hear?

Listening is the ability to accurately receive and and interpret messages in communication.

But what message is your mind paying attention to?

Two different people can hear the same exact story and come out with a different outcome.

That's why finding jury members can be so tough.

A biased person who thinks the defendant is guilty could only be picking up the facts for why he/she is guilty.

On the other side, one biased jury member who thinks the defendant is innocent could only be pickup up the facts for why he/she is innocent.

The can both hear the same story.

Two different messages could result.

Same goes with sports.

Coach focuses on the positives in an athlete.

Confidence starts to compound.

Coach starts nit-picking the negative.

Athlete performance can start to drop.

From a third party, observation of listeners is intriguing.

But when it comes to ourselves, we must be aware.

So when people are talking, are we truly understanding the grasp of what we're trying to say?
