Finally a Break from the Virus...
Our Weekly 2 Minute Read
For the first time since quarantine, we finally got a glimpse of hope.
Instead of turning on the news to see never-ending reports about the formidable pandemic, the world of football gave us a refreshing break.
The NFL draft took place over the last three days.
While there were many necessary adjustments by the entire league to make it happen, they followed through.
Their leadership provided the country and sports fans around the world with a nice reminder that things could go back to normal.
The ratings proved the country needed it...
After all, the 2020 NFL Draft pulled in record TV ratings.
Personally, I've always admired the NFL draft.
If you recall, I wrote about it the year prior.
It's amazing to see these young men work their entire lives and see their dreams being played out in front of our eyes.
From our end, we see highlights that "sums" up this young man in about 120 seconds.
But what we don't see, is the tough grind and years of discipline that it took to get there.
We don't see the injury recoveries.
We don't see the gruesome workouts.
We don't see the sacrifices that their families had to make in order to make sure their young athletes could perform better the next day.
All we see on TV is pure relief and joy once the commissioner calls their name.
As a football fan, we see hope -
Hope in the form of a young man who can turn into a star.
Hope in the form of your team winning the championship this year.
Hope in the form of society returning to normal.
And hope in the form of people working together to overcome the pandemic.
So thank you NFL for the nice break and congratulations to all the athletes who had their dream come true.
Thank you for reminding us that we will be able to argue about our favorite players and favorite teams face-to-face one day soon.
