Take Advantage of the Opportunity or Too Much Risk?
Our Weekly 2 Minute Read
The MLB trade deadline passed this week and if you follow baseball, you saw that my beloved San Diego Padres made a flurry of trades.
Nearly a third of the roster has changed with players being sent all around the country.
In a shortened bubble season, it's a big risk for the Padres.
Some argue the Padres were desperate as they have yet to see the playoffs for over a decade.
Others argue they are taking advantage of the opportunity and making a smart push towards a championship.
The Padres' General Manager (the one negotiating all the trades) is notorious for his work ethic and constant self-analysis.
Ironically, in a COVID-filled baseball season, he's been dealt a large opportunity for his team to take advantage.
While many "larger" teams have faltered, the youthful Padres have taken the league by storm and sprinted out of the gates.
In reality, we've all been dealt with an opportunity as well.
The question remains whether we took advantage of the opportunities presented to us.
For example, stocks have shot up and down like crazy.
Zoom just jumped 40% this week, but were you able to capitalize?
Countless people are working from home and no longer have to commute, but are they taking advantage of the extra time?
Businesses are closing down, but other businesses are thriving - what makes the difference between which ones are sustainable?
These are the questions that may be a bit too late to ask; however, the good news is - there are more opportunities.
There's opportunity around us, even in a pandemic-stricken world.
It's just up to us to find it and exploit it.
