The Eagle and the Tortoise...

Our Weekly 2 Minute Read

Edition 140 - March 28, 2021

There's a famous Aesop fable where a tortoise asked an eagle to take him high in the sky.

The eagle agrees to help the tortoise see the world in returns for some gold from the river.

As the tortoise sees the world, he sees his tortoise friends on the ground and begins to show off his agreement to them.

Now seeing the world, the eagle asked the tortoise for his gold.

But the tortoise refused to give him any gold and ultimately duped him in the business relationship.

Getting taken advantage of, the eagle wanted his revenge.

So the eagle offered to take the tortoise in the air one more time.

But this time, the eagle dropped the tortoise from high in the air.

The tortoise hit the ground with a loud thud, with the only saving grace being his hard shell.

The eagle got his revenge.

The tortoise came away with a damaged shell.

Eventually, the tortoise crawled back to his friends and asked for forgiveness before finally being let back into the group...

There's a lot of lessons to be learned from this famous fable.

But I think of most importance, is staying true to your word in business.

Reputation is everything.

And when you back out on an agreement, the other party will want vengeance.

Break multiple bridges, and business will become harder and harder later down the road.

Relationships are what make a business scale.

So don't be like the tortoise and keep true to your word.
